New HTC Android Phones ChaCha and Salsa Facebook

Posted on | February 17, 2011 | 1 Comment

htc facebook New HTC Android Phones ChaCha and Salsa FacebookHTC has announced a pair of phones at Mobile World Congress that may appeal to devotees of the world’s largest social network, Facebook. The HTC ChaCha and Salsa are Android phones with some special tweaks to make them more Facebook-centric. Chiefly among the social features it the context aware Facebook button right on the front of the devices.

The oddly named ChaCha is a portrait QWERTY device with a 2.6-inch HVGA screen. The Salsa has a larger 3.4-inch HVGA display, but no keyboard. Both devices are running 600MHz Qualcomm processors and early builds of Android 2.4 underneath HTC Sense. This build of Sense is not the standard version used on more high-end devices, but has more integration with Facebook.  Status updates are more prominently featured, and the Facebook button will glow when an activity can be shared on the site.

These phones are expected to launch globally by the end of Q2. Carrier support is unclear, but even unsubsidized, these handsets won’t be too pricey. Do you know someone that would use one of these?
